Instructions:
Welcome to Algebra - One On One! Algebra - One On One features two different games, the Individual Function Practice Game (default starting game) and the Algebra Game. The Individual Function Practice Game gives you experience with each individual function. The Algebra Game requires you to first determine which of several function families is being used, and then solve. The Algebra Game is more advanced, and develops critical thinking skills.
Each of the two games, in turn, have at least two different Ways To Play. The first and easiest is Calculate Value way to play. Here you're given a formula like y = 2x and just have to calculate the answer. The second Way to Play, available only for the Algebra Games, is the Choose Formula way to play. You must choose which formula is correct from the five choices given. The third Way To Play, available on both games, is the Figure Formula and Calculate mode. Here you again have to figure out which formula is used, and in addition you must solve it. You choose these ways to play from the "Ways To Play" menu at the top of your game screen.
We recommend you start in the Function One of the Individual Function Practice Game, in the easiest mode, Calculate Value. This is the default starting setting. The other way to play the Practice Game is Figure Formula and Calculate. We recommend that you play the Function One of the Individual Function Practice Game using both Ways To Play, in the order they are listed. As soon as a Way To Play seems too easy, move on to the next Way To Play. Once both Ways To Play seem easy, you're ready to tackle Function Two of the Individual Function Practice Game. Follow the same sequence on the Level Two Individual Function Practice Game. SHORTCUT - as soon as a game seems too easy, simply pick "Advance To Next Suggested Game" on the Show Scores form that appears every time you finish a game.
Once you've mastered Function Two Individual Function Practice Game you're ready to try Level One of the Algebra Game. The Algebra game requires you first to identify which function family being used, then solve. We recommend playing Level One using both Ways To Play. Again, as soon as a Way To Play seems too easy, move on to the next Way To Play.
Next, before going to Level Two of the Algebra game, master Level Three of the Individual Function Practice game. After that, play Level Two of the Algebra game. The Algebra Game starting with Level Two introduces a third Way To Play - called Choose Formula. In this way to play you don't calculate any value, instead you choose the correct equation. We recommend that you play the Level Two of the Algebra Game using all three Ways To Play, in the order they are listed.
Continue on until you've reached level 21 Einstein ! If the problems seem too easy, please jump ahead. Also, you can print this from your readme.txt file. Finally, you can let the compute guide you by simply picking "Advance To Next Suggested Game" on the Show Scores form as soon as the game you've been playing seems too easy.
The "secret" to having an enjoyable gaming experience is to always work at a level that is neither too frustrating nor too easy. Also, keep varying the game by experimenting with different game options .Finally, the best secret is to involve your friends by playing the Combat! One - On - One Game option that makes math an exciting two-player game. (Find this under the Options menu at the top of the game screen. Find instructions under the Help menu.)
